We do not set the type at the bottom of the
Kwikprint type holder. It is to close to the
heating element and each successive line
receives less heat and results in a poorly
printed job. If the operator turns up the heat
or applies more pressure to compensate for
this it damages the foundry type. What occurs
when multiple lines are set is the first line
closest to the heating element gets very hot
and the last line closest to the retaining screw
(show at the top of the holder) does not
receive enough heat. This cause the user to
turn up the heat or apply excessive pressure
when printing resulting a poor impression and
damaging the foundry type.

| We recommend.... Using a 12 point (1/4") bar of Strip Material at the base of this type holder prior to setting type. This keeps the heating element (at the base of the head in this photo) from overheating the first line of type and helps greatly with an even heat distribution. This procedure will generate a better printing impression, sharper printed image and will extend the longevity of your foundry type. |
